Deputy Foreign Minister Congratulates President-elect of United Nations General Assembly

Sana'a: The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdulwahid Abu Ras, expressed his warmest congratulations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, on the occasion of his election as President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Yemen News Agency, in his cable, Abu Ras expressed confidence in the ability of the President-elect to lead the work of the General Assembly efficiently and competently, given his experience in diplomatic and multilateral work, wishing him success in performing his duties in the coming period.

He pointed out that the world is facing major challenges in various fields, as many countries continue to suffer from aggression, blockade, and genocide crimes, the global economy is experiencing major crises, international law and the UN Charter are being blatantly disregarded, and the rules-based international system is facing serious challenges.

The Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed that these challenges have led to an erosion of trust in the role of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, development, and human rights, making it imperative to redouble efforts to address shortcomings and restore confidence in the international organization.

He praised the vision put forward by the President-elect for the 81st session under the slogan "Restoring Trust and Managing Transitions: A United Nations that Delivers for All," considering that the slogan reflects an accurate diagnosis of the current challenges facing the organization and the urgent need to restore trust in it, activate its role, and work for all peoples of the world.

Abu Ras expressed the Yemeni Republic's aspiration to translate this vision into tangible reality, affirming Yemen's readiness for constructive cooperation with the presidency of the upcoming session of the General Assembly, in order to enable the United Nations to play its role in maintaining international peace and security and confronting growing challenges.
