Dhamar: Dhamar University has officially approved the final recommendations emerging from its First Scientific Conference, which was organized by the Faculty of Medical Sciences under the theme: 'Facing Addiction Challenges in Yemeni Society: Reality, Challenges, and Solutions.'
According to Yemen News Agency, during an event organized by the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center alongside the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University Chairman Dr. Mohammed al-Haifi commended the committee for their work in preparing the recommendations and the scientific outputs of the conference. He highlighted the university's role as a national center of expertise responsible for addressing societal challenges by translating scientific insights into actionable plans to support state efforts in combating addiction.
Dr. Adel al-Ansi, Dean of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center and Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs, presented an analytical overview that connected the conference outcomes to the university's community service strategy. He noted that the recommendations serve as a practical roadmap addressing prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and legislation, with plans for follow-up in collaboration with relevant institutions.
Dr. Adel Omran, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Conference Chair, discussed the recommendations formed from extensive scientific discussions with academics, doctors, and specialists. These recommendations are structured around six strategic axes: establishing a national center for addiction research, integrating awareness programs into education, expanding treatment centers, updating laws on pharmaceutical substances, addressing emerging challenges such as digital addictions, and forming a national committee to monitor progress.
The conference chair emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive approach to tackling addiction, addressing not only the symptoms but also the social, economic, and psychological roots of the issue. He called on official and community bodies to adopt this vision for a national impact.
