Diesel Prices in EU Reach New High Amid Regional Variations

Sana'a:The average price of diesel at fuel stations across the European Union has hit a new record, climbing to 2.24 euros per liter, marking an increase of one cent over the previous week's record. According to Yemen News Agency, 12 out of the 27 EU member states, including Italy, Poland, Belgium, and Romania, have reported new record levels for diesel prices. In Denmark, the Netherlands, and Finland, diesel prices have surpassed 2.50 euros per liter, while in Germany, the price stands at 2.44 euros per liter. In Belgium, where a record level was noted, the average diesel price reached 2.43 euros per liter on Monday, up from 2.39 euros the previous week. Italy saw a 7-cent increase, bringing the price to 2.35 euros per liter. Meanwhile, in France, excluding overseas territories and Corsica, the average price slightly decreased to 2.37 euros per liter. Across the EU, the average diesel price rose by one cent per liter over the past week. The European Commission data, which includes taxes accounting for abo ut 40 percent of the consumer price, does not consider targeted support such as assistance for long-distance drivers in France. The EU calculates the overall average price based on fuel consumption in each country, which was 1.59 euros per liter last February. The rise in prices since then has been attributed to several geopolitical factors, including Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a blockade by Yemeni forces on Saudi exports in the Red Sea, and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. These events followed American and Israeli strikes on Iran, leading to war in the Middle East.
