Nagoya: The 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, commenced on Saturday at Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, Japan, marking another significant chapter in the history of this continental sporting event. Yemen is among the participating nations. According to Yemen News Agency, the Games are set to run through October 4, drawing around 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions. They will compete in 43 sports and 71 disciplines. The event was inaugurated by Emperor Naruhito, underscoring its importance on the international sports calendar. Yemen has sent a delegation consisting of 27 participants, which includes 17 athletes and 10 coaches. They will compete in nine sports: table tennis, tennis, wushu, shooting, archery, boxing, swimming, athletics, and judo. The opening ceremony was a spectacle of Japanese cultural and artistic performances, highlighted by the parade of participating delegations. Yemen's flag was proudly carried by table tennis player Majed Al-Dhubhani and shooting athlete Yasmeen Al-Raimi. The Ga mes comprise 469 events with a total of 1,407 medals available. Yemen's athletes are set to begin their competitions tomorrow in table tennis and swimming.
