Washington: Former US Senator Bernie Sanders believes the government shutdown stems from President Donald Trump and his allies’ desire to grant a trillion-dollar tax cut to the top 1% of Americans, according to RT on Sunday.
According to Yemen News Agency, in a video circulating on social media, Sanders stated, “The essence of the government shutdown is that President Trump and his allies granted trillion-dollar tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of the population.”
The outgoing senator added, “Among these wealthy individuals are billionaire Jeff Bezos and his peers.” He pointed out that to recoup these costs, “they are now doubling health insurance premiums for nearly 20 million Americans already covered by the Affordable Care Act.”
