Volkswagen Reports £5.8 Billion Loss in Third Quarter Amid Market Challenges

Berlin:German automaker Volkswagen has reported a significant financial downturn, recording a loss of £5.8 billion ($6.5 billion) in the third quarter of this year. This marks a stark contrast to the £1.07 billion loss it faced during the same period last year.

According to Yemen News Agency, the company is experiencing intense competition from Chinese manufacturers in the automotive market, which is considered the largest globally. Additionally, Volkswagen is contending with challenges related to the transition towards electric vehicles and a general decline in demand.

Last month, Volkswagen had cautioned that its group, which includes brands such as Audi, SEAT, and Škoda, is under pressure that might lead to a reduction of up to £10 billion in its annual earnings. The report highlighted that Porsche, a subsidiary known for luxury sports cars and SUVs, is a significant contributor to the group's quarterly losses. Porsche has struggled with declining sales in China, U.S. tariff policies, and its strategy concerning electric vehicles.

Furthermore, Volkswagen announced plans earlier this year to cut over 100,000 jobs across its group by the end of the decade as part of its cost-reduction strategy. The company also disclosed that restructuring costs are projected to reach £31 billion. Plant closures in Germany, including facilities in Zwickau, Emden, Hanover, and Neckarsulm, are under consideration or have already been decided.

The website reported Volkswagen's Chief Financial Officer, Arno Antlitz, emphasized the importance of rapid and decisive actions, highlighting the need for swift execution without delay.
