Hodeidah: The Governor of Hodeidah, Abdullah Atifi, discussed with the Head of the Tihama Development Authority, Ali Haza'a, today the workflow in the agricultural sector and ways to enhance rural development in various districts of the governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting reviewed mechanisms for activating 100 agricultural schools distributed across the districts, comprising 2,250 agricultural extension workers, with 25 guides per school. This initiative aims to intensify field awareness for farmers and adopt vertical expansion techniques to increase the productivity of priority crops to achieve food security.
The discussion also touched upon the importance of raising readiness to receive the rainy season by completing preventive maintenance work for diversion channels and terraces and cleaning watercourse beds. These measures are intended to ensure the safe flow of rainwater and floods, maximizing their benefit in irrigating agricultural lands and protecting them from erosion.
Governor Atifi listened to an explanation about ongoing preparations to benefit from the rainy season, supporting agricultural activity and improving soil fertility in several districts of the governorate.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed agricultural extension reports related to the general condition of livestock and vegetation cover. It emphasized the necessity of continuing field visits to provide technical support to farmers and breeders to face any challenges that may confront production.
Governor Atifi affirmed the importance of creating direct marketing channels for cooperative association products within Hodeidah city through coordination with urban associations and marketing outlets. This effort aims to ensure that local products reach consumers with the required quality and at appropriate and fair prices.
The Head of the Tihama Development Authority expressed the Authority's commitment to supporting agricultural extension programs, activating agricultural schools, and coordinating with relevant authorities to develop agricultural production and improve the efficiency of agricultural resource use in Hodeidah Governorate.
