Sana'a: A meeting in Sana'a, including the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Ammar Al-Karim, and the Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Adel Bader, discussed aspects of cooperation between the two ministries in the field of developing and preserving water resources.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, which was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for the Services and Support Sector, Murad Al-Shaif, reviewed ways to coordinate technical and administrative efforts between the two sides to contribute to raising the efficiency of water resources management, enhancing their sustainability, and directing projects towards serving agricultural development and service needs related to water.
The Acting Minister of Agriculture affirmed that increasing water challenges require responsible handling of water as a national treasure, noting the importance of rationalizing its use in various fields and reducing random depletion of groundwater. He stressed the necessity of activating community initiatives and enhancing popular contribution in implementing water harvesting and conservation projects, affirming that the community is an essential partner in protecting water resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
Al-Karim stated that directives have been issued to prepare a joint national strategy with the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water, to ensure the development of water resources and protect them from the depletion occurring in water basins in the governorates, and to develop effective treatments to reduce that according to a comprehensive national vision focusing on rational water management and achieving water sustainability.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water affirmed the ministry's keenness to enhance partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, to contribute to implementing strategic projects related to water resources management. He considered rationalizing water consumption a collective responsibility that requires spreading community awareness of the importance of optimal water use, adopting modern means and techniques that reduce loss, in addition to supporting state plans for expanding water facilities that contribute to feeding groundwater stock and achieving water sustainability.
Additionally, the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources discussed with the President of the Agricultural Court, Judge Anwar Al-Huraisha, arrangements to enable the court to commence its tasks, foremost among them providing a suitable headquarters that meets the legal and technical requirements for the work of specialized courts. The meeting, attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Services and Support Sector, reviewed ways to find practical solutions to provide a suitable headquarters for the Agricultural Court to ensure the start of its work as soon as possible, and enable it to perform its role in adjudicating agricultural cases and cases of smuggling and violations related to the agricultural sector.
Both sides affirmed the importance of the role of the Agricultural Court in achieving justice in agricultural cases, reducing violations and transgressions, and ensuring the protection of agricultural resources and supporting sustainable development efforts.
