Taiz: The office of the General Zakat Authority in Taiz Governorate has initiated a field awareness campaign focusing on the significance of zakat, its religious obligation, and building trust among those required to pay it towards the projects executed by the Zakat Authority.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Deputy Director of the Authority's office in the governorate, Fawaz Hassan, stated that this campaign is part of a broader awareness program. It is designed to target merchants, and zakat payers of all scales - large, medium, and small, as well as the general public. The goal is to elevate the understanding of zakat rulings, its Nisab (minimum threshold), and legitimate purposes, thereby fostering adherence to its timely performance.
Hassan emphasized that the campaign aims to rectify misconceptions and urge zakat payers to recognize their religious and societal duties. He highlighted zakat as a cornerstone for social solidarity and mentioned that the campaign will employ direct awareness methods, such as distributing guidance stickers at commercial establishments.
Anas Al-Mahya, the Acting Director of Awareness, explained that direct awareness methods are crucial in conveying messages to those who owe zakat and others who are eligible. This approach is intended to promote a culture of initiative and promptness in zakat payments, especially during Ramadan.
He also noted that this year's Zakat al-Fitr is set at 550 riyals per person, encouraging early payment to facilitate its distribution during Ramadan's final days, ensuring it reaches the poor and needy.
In addition, the Director of the Financial Affairs Office, Saeed Al-Mahya, stressed the importance of social cooperation amidst challenging economic conditions. He pointed out that zakat plays a vital role in easing the plight of the needy and fostering empathy within the community.
