Sana'a: A meeting was held in Sana'a on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Adel Badr, to review the Ministry's report on the implementation of the interim plan for the year 1446 AH, a year marked by resilience and reconstruction.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by key figures including the Undersecretary of the Electricity Sector, Engineer Ahmed Al-Mutawakkil, and the Assistant Undersecretary of the Water Sector, Engineer Abdulsalam Al-Hakimi. Participants reviewed the results of field visits aimed at evaluating the performance of emergency plans. The gathering also included officials like the Chairman of the Electric Industries Corporation, Abdulghani Al-Madani, who assessed the achievements of local institutions based on their interim plans and performance indicators.
The meeting addressed challenges faced by local water and sanitation institutions, the progress of their annual plans for the first half of 1447 AH, and related projects. Discussions focused on emergency preparedness, the shift toward alternative energy, and exploring additional sources of drinking water for areas with water shortages. The participants also considered halting new well drilling except in exceptional cases and discussed improvements for sewage treatment plants.
Deputy Minister Adel Badr emphasized the importance of reviewing the conditions of the electricity and water sectors to enhance their performance and address obstacles. He highlighted efforts to coordinate with international organizations to support projects, stressing the need for these organizations to meet their commitments. Badr also emphasized seeking funding for projects lacking financing and the importance of coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Deputy Minister praised the political leadership's support for the technical staff of the Public Electricity Corporation, noting their professionalism in restoring power despite challenges. He stressed the integration of the electricity, water, and sanitation sectors as crucial for advancing these vital sectors. With the holy month of Ramadan approaching, he urged dedication in providing water and electricity services to facilitate citizens' access.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of the Electricity Sector highlighted the need to update the emergency plan to address current challenges. He underscored the importance of fulfilling responsibilities for integrated performance and careful selection of planning directors. The Chairman of the Electric Industries Corporation affirmed the Corporation's commitment to its tasks and efforts to improve performance in line with Ministry directives.
