Sanaa: A meeting was held today, chaired by the Mayor of the Capital, Dr. Hammoud Obbad, to discuss ways to implement projects related to sanitation and the agricultural situation in Bani Al-Harith District, as well as the emergency interventions and treatments being carried out by the Capital Secretariat.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included participation from Deputy Ministers of Local and Rural Administration and Development for the Development Sector, Ahmed Al-Haij, and the Secretariat for Agricultural Affairs, Mohammed Saree', alongside the Head of the Emergency Operations Room, Dr. Abdulwahab Sharaf. They addressed work paths and the efforts of various offices and relevant authorities concerning these pressing issues.
The gathering, attended by key figures such as the Director of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in the Secretariat, Engineer Mohammed Mada'is, and the Director of the Unit for Financing Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives, Abdullah Sharaf, among others, reviewed a series of projects and emergency treatments that are planned to be implemented according to a studied plan with an urgent timeline.
The proposed projects and treatments involve rehabilitating and operating water wells to support farmers, maintaining traditional treatment plants, and sanitation basins and channels, planting Paulownia trees, and enhancing the role of the Bani Al-Harith Cooperative Association and community initiatives in executing water, agricultural, and development projects.
Mayor Dr. Hammoud Obbad highlighted the necessity of continuing field work according to the established plan and executing measures that have been approved urgently. He stressed ongoing coordination with central authorities for adopting the joint intervention matrix submitted by the Capital Secretariat to address the general situation in the Al-Rahbah area of Bani Al-Harith District.
He instructed the Local Water Corporation to accelerate the rehabilitation of small treatment plants in Bani Al-Harith, begin identifying specific routes for treated water, and rehabilitate existing water wells. Dr. Abbad also mandated coordination with district leadership and local dignitaries to streamline field work.
The Head of the Emergency Operations Room, Sharaf al-Din, provided an overview of the steps and field measures undertaken, alongside directives from the Supreme Emergency Committee to tackle the sanitation water issue in Bani Al-Harith. He emphasized analyzing needs, priorities, and challenges on-site, and presenting necessary proposals.
Director Mohammed Mada'is of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation noted the commencement of maintenance and rehabilitation of the treatment plant lagoon next week, enhancing its operational capacity. He mentioned plans for a technical study to establish sanitation treatment plants for population clusters, medical facilities, and industrial establishments, providing sustainable, decentralized solutions to treatment challenges.
The meeting concluded with a package of decisions, executive measures, and strategic projects aimed at developing the sanitation system, expanding surface water facilities to support farmers, and integrating solar energy systems as soft loans for residents. Additionally, the initiative to plant 10,000 Paulownia tree seedlings as an alternative, fast-growing crop for construction timber was reaffirmed.
