Sana'a: A team overseeing development and cooperative work in the capital Sana'a discussed on Monday ways to improve the performance of multi-purpose cooperative associations across the capital's districts. The meeting, chaired by First Deputy Mayor Khaled Al-Madani, reviewed activities and projects implemented in the past period, shortcomings, and measures to address them.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Madani stated that cooperative associations receive leadership attention as a priority at the current stage, urging concerted efforts to support their programs and activities. He emphasized the importance of cooperative work as part of the economic front, calling for stronger oversight, expansion of activities, improved promotion, marketing, and regular performance reports. He noted that the performance of the associations and their management will be evaluated over the next three months to improve efficiency and achieve positive change.
The team also reviewed a report on the associations' activities during August. The report covered 10 multi-purpose cooperative associations with 14,813 shareholders holding 29,086 shares, in addition to 936 'Faris' and 41 financing portfolios. The report also addressed training, awareness programs, the furnishing, equipping of association headquarters, operating expenses, shortcomings, and priorities for the next phase.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Kabsi, head of the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprises Development, praised the associations' efforts, stressing the need to establish institutional structures, clearly define responsibilities, and address obstacles to their work. He also highlighted the Authority's efforts to support and finance projects, emphasizing that cooperative associations play an important role in community development, requiring qualified personnel and capacity building.
