Entisaf Organization Condemns Airstrikes on Chemico Factory in Taiz

Taiz:The Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights has condemned the targeting of the Chemico paint and chemical factory in the Al-Rabiei area of Taiz Governorate's Ta'iziyah District by Saudi-led coalition airstrikes.

According to Yemen News Agency, the organization noted that the bombardment triggered massive fires, raising grave concerns about potential environmental and health repercussions. The factory contained large quantities of chemicals, paints, and highly flammable substances, posing a risk of air and environmental pollution that endangers the lives and safety of local residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly.

The organization highlighted the economic and humanitarian harm inflicted on approximately 500 workers and their families, whose livelihoods are threatened amidst an already deteriorating humanitarian situation. The statement further explained that targeting industrial facilities containing chemical substances risks hazardous material leaks and the spread of pollutants, leading to long-term health and environmental damage.

Entisaf emphasized the urgent need to address the fire's resulting risks, assess environmental damage, and implement necessary measures to prevent pollutant spread, thereby protecting the local population, workers, and rescue teams. The organization also stressed that international humanitarian law obligates the Saudi adversary to adhere to the principles of distinction and proportionality, holding it accountable for any proven damages.

The organization reiterated its call to the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations, especially those concerned with the environment and health, to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. It urged them to address the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the livelihoods of citizens, ensuring the protection of civilians and their fundamental rights.
