Accra:Entisaf Organization for Women and Child Rights has condemned the Saudi airstrikes targeting a home in the Sami' district of Taiz governorate. These airstrikes resulted in the death of the wife of one of Judge Ali Abdullah Al-Sami's sons, highlighting the severe threats to civilian safety and the rights of women and children.
According to Yemen News Agency, the organization also denounced the attacks on Abs district in Hajjah governorate, where three citizens were injured. Additionally, the use of cluster bombs in the Bani Hatab villages was condemned, as these weapons pose long-term risks to civilians, particularly children, due to unexploded ordnance.
The statement from Entisaf Organization warned of the significant humanitarian impacts these attacks have, including the threat to civilian lives, the prevention of safe return to homes and farms, and dangers during daily activities. It also criticized missile attacks on civilian facilities in Sa'da, Taiz, and Hodeida governorates, which have caused material and humanitarian damage and affected access to essential services.
Entisaf emphasized that such targeting raises serious concerns regarding adherence to international humanitarian law, particularly concerning the principles of distinction and proportionality. The organization noted that women and children are disproportionately affected by the ongoing aggression and blockade, resulting in death, injury, psychological trauma, and disruption of essential services.
The organization called for legal accountability, justice for victims, and reparations for damages, urging an end to the aggression and blockade. It also called for the facilitation of humanitarian aid, medical assistance, and the removal of unexploded ordnance to secure affected areas.
Finally, the statement appealed to the United Nations and international human rights organizations to take effective actions to ensure civilian protection, emphasizing that protecting civilians is an obligatory requirement under international humanitarian law.
