Sana'a: Participants in the First Scientific Conference on Midwifery recommended that the "Reference Guide for Regulating the Practice of the Profession" be considered a binding national document, and that the "Safe Motherhood Law" be expedited to reduce unnecessary cesarean sections.
According to Yemen News Agency, the recommendations also called for the establishment of a unified national system for emergency obstetric referrals, the technical and administrative integration of midwives with referral hospitals, the formal inclusion of midwives in the Medical Council, and the issuance of a "Licensed Midwife Card" to facilitate the accompaniment of referred cases.
