Sana'a: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jamal Amer, received on Saturday the credentials, the newly appointed Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen. During the meeting, Minister Amer welcomed Berrin, affirming the Foreign Ministry's readiness to provide all forms of support and facilitation necessary to ensure the success of OCHA's humanitarian mission and to overcome any challenges the office may face.
According to Yemen News Agency, Minister Amer urged OCHA to uphold neutrality and adhere to the five guiding principles of humanitarian work, free from external dictates and pressures, to guarantee aid reaches its rightful beneficiaries-particularly the most vulnerable groups whose suffering continues to grow under the impacts of aggression and the ongoing blockade.
The Minister stressed the importance of addressing emerging challenges that exacerbate the crisis, noting: 'The recent U.S.-Israeli aggression and systematic economic blockade aim to dry up the funding sources of humanitarian organizations, which doubles OCHA's responsibility in ensuring the continuous flow of aid.'
He further pointed out that despite these challenges and conspiracies, the capital Sana'a remains one of the safest and most stable cities, providing a conducive environment for international organizations to operate.
For her part, the new OCHA Director in Yemen expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Foreign Ministry's leadership for the warm reception. Berrin emphasized that the principles of neutrality, independence, and transparency form the cornerstone of OCHA's work, affirming her and her team's full commitment to these principles and their determination to exert utmost efforts to ensure vital aid reaches the most vulnerable and affected populations across the country.
