Sana'a: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has stated that the Zionist assault on the "Sumud Flotilla" bound for Gaza constitutes a blatant and flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Ministry explained that the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and the First Additional Protocol of 1977 stipulate that the Israeli occupation authorities must allow the passage of humanitarian aid and must not obstruct its delivery to civilians. These agreements also criminalize attacks on aid convoys or targeting their personnel.
The statement noted that for two years, the Israeli entity has continued to impose a harsh and unjust blockade on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, in a systematic attempt to starve its inhabitants, break their will, and force them into displacement from their land-all in flagrant violation of international norms, laws, and conventions.
The Ministry praised the courage of those participating in the "Sumud Flotilla," who set a shining example of humanitarian solidarity, defying the blockade imposed by the criminal Israeli entity on more than two million civilians in Gaza, and demonstrating that the global human conscience remains alive.
The statement pointed out that the objective of the "Sumud Flotilla" is to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, particularly after the international community failed to lift the blockade and provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, whose situation has reached a point of famine and total collapse.
The Ministry reiterated its call on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to stop the genocide and the blockade of Gaza, and to hold the Israeli entity accountable for its ongoing crimes that threaten international peace and security. It also reiterated the Republic of Yemen's unwavering stance of supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza in every possible way until the aggression ends and the blockade against them is lifted.
