Sana'a: The fourth annual Ramadan League for veteran players over 40 years old kicked off yesterday at Al-Hadara Stadium in Al-Tahrir District, Sana'a. The tournament is organized by Watani Sport Academy with support from Yemen Telecom.
According to Yemen News Agency, eleven teams are participating in the 20-day tournament, divided into two groups. Group A includes Al-Majd, University Pioneers, Sports Lovers, Watani Pioneers, Al-Ittifaq, and Mishkat Al-Khair, while Group B comprises Al-Hasaba Pioneers, Al-Asdiqa', Al-Adl, Sports Pioneers, and Al-Dhiya'.
The competition is being played in a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals, which will be played in a knockout format.
In the opening round, Watani Pioneers began their campaign with a 9-7 victory over Sports Lovers, securing their first three points in Group A.
The league continues today, Sunday, with two matches in Group B. Al-Hasaba Pioneers will face Al-Asdiqa', while Al-Adl will play Sports Pioneers. The organizing committee for the league, which enjoys a large following, is headed by Captain Bassam Al-Kahali.
