Gaza Tents: Ovens of Death Under August Sun

General

Gaza: Under the scorching August sun, hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip live inside dilapidated tents that have been transformed into "closed ovens," trapping the heat and suffocating the breath of adults and children alike, amid catastrophic humanitarian conditions that are worsening by the day. According to Yemen News Agency, Ahmed al-Madhoun, 38, described his situation, saying, "The tent is burning. The sun is above and the heat is trapped inside. Even at night, the air is stifling." His three children have developed skin diseases due to the intense heat, and his wife is trying in vain to cool them with a piece of cardboard. Asmaa Abu al-Kas, 34, a pregnant mother of three, believes that what she is experiencing today is a "second war" of heat, hunger, and thirst, after her tent was torn apart by constant movement. Wael Rajab, 45, says, "We're living in a state of fire... The tent has no ventilation, and my elderly family can't bear it." He calls for the introduction of new ca ravans and tents to save families from their ongoing suffering. With the scarcity and poor quality of water and the lack of adequate sanitation, skin and respiratory diseases are spreading rapidly among the displaced, especially children and the elderly. According to estimates, approximately 1.9 million citizens, or nearly 90% of the Gaza Strip's population, are facing dire humanitarian conditions amid severe shortages of food, shelter, and healthcare, in what is known as the "worst-case scenario of famine" across large areas of Gaza. Although the humanitarian protocol agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement signed last January stipulated the introduction of 60,000 caravans and 200,000 tents, the Zionist entity has prevented its implementation, leaving more than 120,000 dilapidated tents without replacement. Meanwhile, the siege and aggression continue, killing more than 61,000 citizens and injuring more than 152,000 since its inception.
