Shaharah: The General Authority Chairman for the Preservation of Historic Cities, Abdulwahab Al-Mahdi, inspected the historical and Islamic landmarks and fortresses of Shaharah, including its renowned bridge, which has suffered damage due to lack of maintenance and rainwater leakage.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Mahdi emphasized the need for urgent intervention to save the Shaharah Bridge during his visit, which was accompanied by the Authority's Technical Undersecretary Fuad Al-Maswari, Director of the Authority's branch in Amran Governorate Hamdi Allahim, the Authority's advisor Aqil Nasari, Director of the Architectural Studies and Training Center Engineer Sami Moheb Al-Din, and local council and community representatives.
The engineering team from the Authority conducted an inspection of the bridge, which spans 20 meters in length and three meters in width, and is built over a gorge more than 300 meters deep. The team aims to prepare a report on the damage and suggest necessary measures for its preservation.
Shaharah, located in Amran Governorate, is known for its architectural and engineering significance, perched atop two mountains connected by the suspended bridge. The city is recognized for its defensive position, historic gates, and educational legacy as a center for imams and scholars. The Grand Mosque, with its rare manuscripts, along with castles and fortresses, adds to the city's historic value. The bridge is a symbol of Shaharah, facilitating communication between the two mountains.
