Sana'a: The Global Legal and Human Rights Conference in support of the Palestinian people was held on Wednesday in the capital, Sana'a. The event was organized by the National External Communications Team under the slogan 'The Scale of Justice for Palestine.'
According to Yemen News Agency, the conference was attended by a distinguished group of academics, politicians, legal experts, human rights defenders, and activists from around the world. The aim was to highlight justice for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights in international forums, mobilize individuals and organizations toward practical measures to support Palestine, and underscore the Palestinian people's right to defend themselves.
Participants discussed several key topics, including the inefficiency of international human rights mechanisms in protecting human rights, the legitimacy of the Palestinian people's and factions' actions in self-defense, and legal avenues for prosecuting the Zionist entity and officials responsible for crimes under the Rome Statute.
The conference also explored legal and judicial methods to hold accountable the regimes and governments that directly or indirectly support crimes committed against Palestinians, and the creation of a global legal and human rights union to support the Palestinian people.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Judge Ibrahim Al-Shami, stated that the conference, which brings together all the free people of the world, reflects Yemen's humanitarian, religious, and moral stance on the central issue of the Islamic and Arab nation, Palestine. This demonstrates Yemen's deep engagement with the cause, striving to support it across all regional and international forums.
Judge Al-Shami described the conference as a foundational step toward a continuous global struggle aimed at unifying international legal and human rights efforts, prosecuting Zionist criminals, activating international justice, exposing the false narratives of occupation, and affirming the legitimacy of the Palestinian people's struggle to defend themselves and reclaim their usurped land by all legitimate means guaranteed under divine laws and international conventions.
He emphasized the establishment of an effective international legal network, including legal professionals, bar associations, human rights institutions, experts, and researchers, following a clear plan with defined objectives and lawful tools. The process begins with documentation and collection of evidence, followed by legal classification of crimes and violations, translating provisions into actionable measures and genuine accountability.
Judge Al-Shami also highlighted that the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza, accompanied by unlimited U.S. support, exposed the ugly face of international hegemony. He praised Yemen's courageous stance under the leadership of Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people-a position rooted in authentic principles and values.
The Deputy Minister of Justice stressed that organized legal work based on solid evidence and compliance with international standards can create real impact, break the long-standing impunity, ensure fair accountability, honor the rights of martyrs, and restore stolen rights to their rightful owners.
He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the External Communications Team, participating academics, experts, activists from around the world, and all entities that contributed to preparing and successfully holding the conference.
Acting Minister of Information, Dr. Omar Al-Bukhaiti, emphasized the importance of the conference in supporting the Palestinian cause, describing it as the central issue of paramount importance to all peoples of the region and the world. He called for legal and human rights cooperation among free partners worldwide to raise public awareness of Palestinian suffering and pursue perpetrators of war crimes and genocide against Gaza's population.
Dr. Al-Bukhaiti also highlighted the vital role of media in raising awareness about the issues of the Ummah, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, supporting it, and redirecting global attention toward assisting the Palestinian people. He praised Yemen's honorable stance under the leadership of Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi in supporting Palestine through all possible means, noting the sacrifices and martyrs offered by the Yemeni people on the path to Al-Quds.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Abdullah Sabri, stated that the brutal genocidal war on Gaza exposed the double standards of international norms regarding the Palestinian cause and revealed the malicious mask of the international community. He highlighted the positive and honorable global public opinion actions in various capitals and universities that stood with Palestine against the atrocities in Gaza, emphasizing that this momentum laid the foundation for a global union supporting Palestinian rights.
Sabri stressed that the struggle with the Zionist entity and its American supporter requires the convergence of all legal and media efforts. He affirmed that the conference is driven by humanitarian, religious, and ethical responsibility, in line with the directives of Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, emphasizing the necessity to act in support of the Palestinian people by all available means.
The conference, attended by Zaid Al-Gharsi, Head of the Media Department of the Presidential Office, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Imad, Dean of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, featured discussions and contributions from several international human rights experts via Zoom.
The conference issued a statement calling for the activation of international mechanisms to protect the Palestinian people, hold accountable Israel and its supporting countries for crimes and violations, and uphold the principle of no impunity.
It was agreed to establish the Global Legal and Human Rights Union in Support of the Palestinian People, headquartered in Sana'a, Yemen. Its charter will serve as an independent international legal framework, aiming to unify the efforts of legal and human rights professionals worldwide and coordinate legal initiatives to protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people under international law.
Participants called on all legal professionals, human rights defenders, and free people of the world to join the union and contribute actively, affirming that justice does not lapse over time and that supporting the oppressed is a shared humanitarian duty.
The conference recommendations affirmed the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state according to international law and UN Security Council resolutions, holding the international community legally and morally accountable for protecting the Palestinian people and ensuring that war criminals do not escape justice.
