Dhamar:The General Corporation for Grain Development and Production has made significant strides in its effort to procure the summer bean harvest from farmers in Dhamar Governorate. This initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with the "Mikhlaf Munqitha," "Jahran," and "Maghrib Ans" multi-purpose agricultural cooperative societies.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Corporation's media office reported that approximately 40 tons of beans have been purchased from farmers in various districts, including Jahran and Maghrib Ans, as well as the Hijrah and Mikhlaf Munqitha areas. The breakdown of the procurement includes 34,998 kilograms through the Munqitha Association, 3,278 kilograms via the Jahran Association, and 891 kilograms through the Maghrib Ans Association.
The Corporation has indicated that the process of receiving the harvest is ongoing, with expectations to increase the total volume of purchases to 100 tons in the near future. The role of the agricultural cooperatives has been commended for their coordination and facilitation efforts, which aid the Corporation's field teams in their support of local farmers.
This procurement initiative is part of broader official efforts to expand the cultivation of grains, legumes, and cash crops. By providing farmers with incentive-based prices that cover production costs and guarantee a profitable margin, the initiative aims to reduce the national import bill, enhance local production, and contribute to achieving self-sufficiency and food security.
