Historical Aggression: A Decade of US-Saudi-Emirati Airstrikes on Yemen

Sana'a: On this day, March 6, a series of aggressive actions by US-Saudi-Emirati forces targeted historical cities, farms, homes, and service facilities across several governorates, resulting in significant destruction and injuries among civilians. According to Yemen News Agency, on March 6, 2016, aggression aircraft launched multiple airstrikes on the historical city of Baraqish in Marib governorate, damaging ancient structures. The attacks extended to residential areas and strategic locations, including Mount Hailan in Sirwah district, and agricultural sites in Hajjah governorate, causing extensive damage. The following year, on March 6, 2017, airstrikes led to injuries and property damage in Sana'a and Taiz governorates. Al-Madfun area and Mount Hawzan were among the targeted sites, with drone attacks exacerbating the situation in Dhubab district. By March 6, 2018, the airstrikes had expanded to include oil factories and citizens' farms in Al-Hodeida governorate, as well as various locations in Saada an d other governorates. The attacks resulted in damage to homes, farms, and other properties. On March 6, 2019, citizens in Saada faced injuries from Saudi artillery, and airstrikes targeted multiple districts, causing widespread destruction. Hodeida governorate experienced intensive shelling, damaging residential areas, hotels, and religious sites. The pattern of aggression continued into March 6, 2020, with rocket and artillery shelling in Saada, and airstrikes in Hajjah and Sana'a governorates. Mercenaries targeted Al-Hodeida governorate, creating fortifications and attacking monitoring points, further escalating tensions. In 2021, the aggression aircraft focused on Marib and Saada governorates with airstrikes, while reconnaissance aircraft targeted districts in Al-Hodeida, causing further damage and civilian distress. By March 6, 2022, the airstrikes persisted in Haradh and Hairan districts in Hajjah governorate, and Sufyan in Amran governorate, among others. The continued shelling by mercenaries in Al- Hodeida governorate added to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Most recently, on March 6, 2023, attacks by the Saudi army in Saada governorate resulted in the death of a citizen and injuries to five others, illustrating the enduring impact of this prolonged conflict on the Yemeni population.
