Hodeida Launches Agricultural Activities Project in Public Schools

Sana'a: Hodeida undersecretary for services affairs Mohammed Halisi launched on Monday the agricultural activities project for public schools for the 1448 AH academic year, as part of the governorate's cultural and skills development program.

According to Yemen News Agency, the launch ceremony was held at Al-Saeed Educational Complex, where Halisi praised the project. It is being implemented by the governorate's education sector through the School Activities Department, in partnership with the General Authority for the Development of Tihama and other relevant entities.

Halisi emphasized the significance of implementing the project to strengthen the connection of young people to the land and agriculture, and to instill a culture of production and environmental protection. This initiative aims to build a generation that will participate in shaping the future of a free and independent Yemen. He stressed the need for continuous performance evaluation and utilizing the results to enhance successes and improve implementation.

Halisi also highlighted the importance of expanding green spaces in schools and developing agricultural and environmental awareness among students. This will enhance community participation in achieving food security and combating desertification.

Khaled Zaid, Director of School Activities in the governorate's Education Sector, explained that the project targets 24 districts and 269 schools, including 211 boys' schools and 58 girls' schools, with the participation of more than six thousand students. He noted that the project includes the formation of 269 agriculture and environment groups in the targeted schools, with 20 students in each group. There are 339 school and local supervisors at the governorate and district levels who will monitor and evaluate the implementation of the activities.

Zaid pointed out that the program aims to plant 20,000 seedlings in the targeted schools, including fruit trees, ornamental trees, and shade trees, in addition to afforestation and desertification control activities. This will enhance the school environment and make it a practical space for agricultural knowledge and skills.
