Jeddah: The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced on Wednesday that the Iran-backed Houthis had initiated new attacks on the southern region of the kingdom. This development comes as the rebels have launched an offensive aimed at controlling the strategically significant Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
According to France24.com, Adam Baron, a Fellow at the New America Foundation, discussed the broader implications of this offensive with Mark Owen. Baron emphasized that the ability of both the Houthis and their allies to disrupt maritime shipping in both the Red Sea and the Gulf could serve as a significant means of leverage. He noted that this could put substantial pressure on stakeholders to seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
