Sana'a: The US technology company HP has signed an agreement with China's Huawei to obtain a global license for Huawei's Wi-Fi patents, while Huawei will gain reciprocal access to HP's high-value patents.
According to Yemen News Agency, China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the deal underscores the evolution of Chinese companies from technology importers into providers of innovation. This agreement challenges the perception that Chinese companies are predominantly on the paying side of international intellectual property arrangements.
Huawei currently holds more than 165,000 valid patents and filed 7,523 international patent applications in 2025. The agreement coincides with China's increasing technological prowess, as the country accounts for 60% of global artificial intelligence patents and two-thirds of robotics patents.
Xinhua further emphasized that the deal illustrates how technological decoupling contradicts the principles of progress, suggesting that innovation flourishes through cooperation and knowledge-sharing rather than isolation.
