Human Rights Authority and Yemeni Academy Forge Partnership to Establish Legal Clinic for Children

Sanaa: The National Human Rights Authority and the Yemeni Academy for Graduate Studies have signed a landmark memorandum of understanding to launch a Legal Clinic for Children in Yemen. The agreement, aimed at providing essential legal support for vulnerable children, was formalized in Sanaa on Wednesday by Authority Chairman Ali Taysir and Academy President Dr. Ahmed Al-Shami.

According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative seeks to create a collaborative model between the human rights institution and the academic body to offer consultations, support, and free legal representation for children before courts and law enforcement in Yemen. This partnership also aims to involve master's and doctoral students specializing in law, social sciences, and security studies in practical human rights work, thereby enriching their academic journey with field experience.

Dr. Al-Shami emphasized the importance of this memorandum as a pivotal step towards integrating legal education with real-world challenges, enhancing the quality of higher education in support of justice. He highlighted that the Legal Clinic for Children would provide graduate students with opportunities to focus their research and academic projects on child rights and juvenile justice, preparing them as legal professionals with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Chairman Taysir underscored the partnership's foundation in fulfilling a legal, humanitarian, and religious duty to protect children. He expressed the authority's commitment to leveraging all institutional resources for the clinic, enhancing coordination with the judiciary and juvenile care centers, and contributing to the development of improved legislation and national policies for child protection.

The memorandum outlines a dual supervision framework that combines judicial fieldwork with academic training and establishes a joint executive committee. This committee will develop an implementation plan and continuously monitor and evaluate activities to ensure the successful achievement of the project's goals and strategic vision.
