Saada:The National Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the ongoing attacks by Saudi forces on civilians in the border districts of Saada Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Commission issued a statement detailing that Saudi forces targeted the border districts of Munabbih, Baqim, and Qatabir with various weapons. These attacks resulted in injuries to four civilians, including two African migrants, with varying degrees of severity.
The Commission asserted that such systematic targeting of these border areas, which are home to residents and migrants, violates international humanitarian law principles of distinction and proportionality. It described these actions as extrajudicial killings and war crimes under the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Rome Statute.
Furthermore, the Commission highlighted that the targeting of African migrants and refugees, who have sought refuge in Yemen due to their challenging circumstances, is a blatant violation of the Refugee Protection Convention and its protocols. It emphasized that this reveals a disregard for human values and an element of racism.
The Commission holds the Saudi regime fully responsible for these crimes against the people of Saada and African migrants. It called on the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the International Organization for Migration to condemn these actions, break their silence, work to protect civilians and migrants, and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
