Ibb: A meeting held on Sunday in Ibb governorate discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the branch of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities and the Agriculture Sector. The meeting reviewed a number of issues related to the development and sustainability of water resources, foremost among them the implementation of rainwater and floodwater harvesting projects and their use to recharge groundwater, thereby enhancing water sources, improving the efficiency of their utilization, and supporting agricultural production.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting also discussed mechanisms for utilizing equipment and machinery belonging to the Agriculture Sector to implement rainwater and floodwater harvesting projects, which are funded by the Authority's branch and whose implementation it oversees. This would strengthen integration among government agencies, make efficient use of available resources, accelerate project implementation, and reduce costs.
The meeting stressed the importance of expanding areas of cooperation and coordination and integrating roles in implementing water projects in a manner that contributes to conserving and developing water resources, reducing groundwater depletion, and enhancing the agricultural sector's ability to benefit from available water sources.
It emphasized the need for continued coordination and exchange of expertise and for establishing practical mechanisms to activate the partnership between the water and agriculture sectors, ensuring that available resources are directed toward priority projects, improving the efficiency of water-resource management, contributing to water and food security, and supporting sustainable development in the governorate.
It also underscored that integration among the relevant authorities is essential to the success of rainwater and floodwater harvesting projects and to transforming such water into a sustainable source, thereby strengthening the governorate's capacity to address water scarcity challenges and preserve its groundwater reserves for future generations.
