Sana'a: The agriculture and education sectors in Ibb governorate launched a tree-planting initiative in the governorate's schools, planting 35,000 fruit and ornamental tree saplings as part of the celebrations commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative, implemented with community participation, aims to plant trees in the courtyards and surrounding areas of primary and secondary schools across the governorate's districts. This will contribute to expanding green spaces, improving the school environment, and raising awareness about the importance of agriculture and preserving vegetation.
At the launch ceremony at Al-Saeed Educational Complex and other schools in Al-Dhehhar and Al-Mashanna districts, Province Undersecretary Mohammed Al-Shabibi emphasized that the school tree-planting initiative reflects the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership to prioritize afforestation and expand tree planting. This approach aims to strengthen food security and protect the environment.
Al-Shabibi highlighted that implementing such initiatives embodies the values of benevolence, good deeds, and giving, transforming the celebration of the Prophet's birthday into actions that benefit society and contribute to raising environmental awareness among future generations.
He stressed the importance of community partnership in the success of agricultural and educational initiatives and in establishing a culture of tree planting and environmental stewardship. He commended the efforts of the agricultural sector in providing tens of thousands of seedlings and encouraging the community to expand tree planting and support the agricultural sector.
Mohammed Al-Ghazali, head of the education sector in the governorate, explained that linking the tree-planting initiative to the Prophet's birthday reflects noble values encouraging building, development, and environmental care. This initiative provides the educational process with a practical dimension that connects knowledge with behavior and practice.
Al-Ghazali viewed the initiative as an opportunity to instill a sense of responsibility in students and cultivate a spirit of volunteerism and community participation, transforming the school into an environment fostering positive behaviors and practices that serve the community and preserve its natural resources.
He stated that the education sector will integrate the initiative into school activities and awareness programs, encouraging students to tend to and care for trees. This will transform schoolyards into educational green spaces, contributing to developing students' agricultural knowledge and skills, and spreading the culture of tree planting and environmental conservation to their families and local communities.
Al-Ghazali urged school administrations, teachers, and students to engage with the initiative, emphasizing that tree planting is a shared responsibility extending beyond simply planting seedlings to include their care, preservation, and sustainability.
Engineer Hamoud Al-Rassas, head of the governorate's agriculture sector, explained that the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture's focus on expanding fruit tree cultivation and intensifying efforts to achieve food security, enhance environmental protection, and develop vegetation cover.
He noted that the initiative aims to expand green spaces, reduce pollution, and beautify schools and their surroundings. It includes awareness programs and activities to educate students about the importance of agriculture and vegetation, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills in preparing nurseries, planting trees, and caring for them.
