Taiz: The Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms has condemned the violations committed by armed formations affiliated with the Saudi enemy, which led to the deaths of two citizens due to sniper fire and artillery shelling in the Sabr Al-Mawadhim and Khadir districts of Taiz Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Network detailed in a statement that field monitoring teams documented a case of direct targeting of a civilian in the Al-Kuraifat area of Sabr Al-Mawadhim District. The incident involved gunfire from medium weapons and snipers by Saudi enemy mercenaries, resulting in the death of Mohammed Abdullah Ali Saif, a 60-year-old citizen, who was shot in the head.
The Network also reported a second incident on the same day in the Wadi Al-Hussein area of Khadir District. This area was subjected to artillery shelling by the same Saudi-affiliated formations, leading to the death of Abdulrahman Othman Ali Nasser, a 48-year-old citizen, who was working on his farm at the time.
The Network's Legal Department emphasized that these incidents are a violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. It asserted that targeting civilians is a violation of the international obligation to separate civilian objects from military targets. The use of excessive force, such as sniping and shelling against civilians, infringes on the legal protection granted to civilian populations in armed conflicts and their right to life.
The Network stated that the intentional and indiscriminate targeting in these incidents classifies them as war crimes, necessitating criminal prosecution of the perpetrators. It held the Saudi enemy and its mercenaries fully responsible for these crimes, urging relevant authorities to preserve evidence, gather testimonies, and refer the violation files to the competent courts.
