Sa'ada: Governor of Sa'ada, Mohammed Awad, inspected the performance of the branch of the General Authority for Water Resources in the governorate, focusing on monitoring water well drilling and efforts to curb excessive groundwater depletion in the Sa'ada Basin.
According to Yemen News Agency, Governor Awad, accompanied by Deputy Governor Mohammed Al-Ba'dani, received an explanation from the branch director, Engineer Ahmed Al-Jaradi, about the implementation mechanisms of the Water Basin Committee's decisions on drilling licenses and procedures that aim to reduce water depletion. The inspection also covered measures to control illegal drilling operations, inspect multiple drinking water sources, and enforce environmental and health standards.
During the visit, Governor Awad stressed the importance of taking necessary measures to prevent overexploitation of groundwater and strictly applying regulations governing drilling operations. He emphasized the need for water facility owners to adhere to preventive standards to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water, and to keep sources free from pollution for public health protection.
Governor Awad also called for regular monitoring of facilities and drinking water sources to ensure quality compliance with standards and specifications, and oversight of drilling equipment owners. He assured the local authority's readiness to address challenges facing the branch in fulfilling its duties, conducting field monitoring campaigns, and enforcing measures against violators.
Additionally, the Governor, along with the Deputy Governor and the Director of the Water Resources Authority Branch, inspected operations at the branch's farm, observing its various crops.
