Sana'a: The Islamic Forum in Sana'a organized a commemorative event on Wednesday to mark the martyrdom of Imam Zaid (peace be upon him) under the slogan "Imam Zayd: Insight and Struggle."
According to Yemen News Agency, the event was attended by officials from the General Authority for Endowments and Guidance, the Islamic Forum, scholars, and social figures. Allamah Abdullah al-Shadhli, Assistant Secretary-General of the Forum, underscored the significance of commemorating Imam Zayd's anniversary to draw lessons and inspiration from his life and his efforts in establishing the foundations of truth and justice, while supporting the oppressed.
The event highlighted that the uprisings led by Imam Zayd and Imam Hussein (peace be upon them both) were emblematic of Muhammadan Islam, which aimed to establish truth and justice, counter oppression and tyranny, and free people from servitude to other humans, redirecting them to the servitude of the Lord of Mankind.
Al-Shadhli emphasized that Imam Zayd embodied the spirit of Islam, combining knowledge and jihad. His approach was universal and inclusive, gaining support from most scholars of the nation, which led to his revolution being termed the "Revolution of the Scholars." He urged continued steadfastness and awareness against conspiracies until victory is achieved.
Abdullah Amer, Director of the Endowments and Guidance Office in Sana'a Governorate, described the commemoration of Imam Zayd's martyrdom as a chance to draw upon guidance, light, and steadfastness. He criticized the negative impact of the Umayyads on the nation, who instilled concepts contrary to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), resulting in religious deviations and corruption. Imam Zayd, he noted, famously stated, "By Allah, the Book of Allah does not permit me to remain silent."
Amer stressed the importance of following Imam Zayd's principles and implementing them in practical reality.
Sheikh Akram al-Darwani of the Yemeni Scholars Association and cultural activist Muhammad al-Afari delivered speeches reaffirming that Imam Zayd's thought was aligned with the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. They highlighted how oppressors used Islam to legitimize their actions, stressing the necessity of drawing lessons from Imam Zayd's courage and faith in resisting tyranny.
