Israeli Cabinet Approves Plan to Occupy Gaza City Amidst International Backlash

Jerusalem: At dawn on Friday, the Israeli mini-ministerial council, often referred to as the 'cabinet,' approved a controversial plan to fully occupy Gaza City. This decision comes after over 22 months of continuous aggression against the Gaza Strip.

According to Yemen News Agency, the plan reflects the extreme measures the Israeli leadership is willing to take in its ongoing conflict with Gaza, despite widespread international condemnation.

The military strategy involves displacing Palestinians from Gaza City to the south, followed by encircling the city and conducting incursions into densely populated areas. This approach has drawn criticism for its potential to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and for its implications on the continued conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

The decision has been met with a storm of rejection from various international stakeholders. Iran, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the plan as an act of genocide and ethnic cleansing. The Arab League, led by Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called for a firm international stance to halt the bloodshed. International bodies, including the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court, have been urged to intervene.

Palestinian resistance movements, including Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, have interpreted the decision as a continuation of the Israeli government's genocidal policies. They emphasize that any attempts to impose surrender on the Palestinian people will be met with fierce resistance.

European nations, including Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, have expressed concerns about the potential humanitarian consequences of the occupation. Germany has already taken steps by halting military exports to Israel. Similarly, the UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres has labeled the plan as contradictory to international law, urging immediate cessation.

In addition, several countries, such as Russia, China, and Australia, have voiced their opposition, highlighting the violation of international law and human rights. They stress the urgency of a ceasefire to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and urge the international community to take decisive action.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the international community will respond to Israel's controversial decision, which has intensified the already volatile situation in the Middle East.
