Jabal Al-Sharq Agricultural Cooperative Distributes 40 Tons of Potato Seeds to Farmers

Doha:Jabal Al-Sharq The Jabal Al-Sharq Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Association has distributed 40 tons of improved local potato seeds to farmers in the Jabal Al-Sharq District of Dhamar Governorate. This initiative is part of an interest-free loan program aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity in the region.

According to Yemen News Agency, Dr. Fahd Al-Muthanna, the head of the association, highlighted the significance of this distribution as a crucial step in the contract farming program under the slogan "Together Toward Self-Sufficiency.. We Eat What We Plant." The provision of local potato seeds at encouraging prices is coordinated with the General Company for Potato Seed Production.

Dr. Al-Muthanna urged farmers to employ sound agricultural practices to ensure high productivity and to avoid agricultural pests. He also encouraged farmers to join the association to benefit from its services, capitalize on the current agricultural season, reclaim arable land, and expand the cultivation of economically beneficial crops, thereby reducing import dependency.

Engineer Ramzi Al-Jinadi, the association's executive director, explained that the distribution rate is one ton of seeds per farmer. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance local production and potentially export surplus potato seeds. Al-Jinadi acknowledged the support of the General Company for Potato Seed Production in meeting farmers' needs for improved, disease-resistant seeds.

Farmers expressed appreciation for the association's role in organizing agricultural cooperative work, supplying agricultural inputs, and marketing crops at prices that yield positive economic returns.
