Sana'a: The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment convened the first joint meeting on Wednesday to discuss the future of Yemen's handicraft and heritage industries. The session was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local, Rural Administration and Development, Mohammed Al-Madani.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting focused on evaluating the current state of the handicraft sector and the challenges faced by Yemeni artisans. A significant concern raised was the influx of imported and counterfeit goods into the market, which negatively impacts local craftsmen and their products.
Participants at the meeting deliberated on various strategies to safeguard the handicraft industries. They explored programs aimed at supporting artisans through economic empowerment projects that could enhance their livelihoods and craft sustainability.
The assembly concluded with the decision to establish a specialized technical committee. This committee will include representatives from relevant agencies and will be tasked with compiling comprehensive statistics and developing an updated database on workshops, artisans, and local production. The goal is to formulate plans that will foster growth and innovation within the sector.
