Seoul: The Bank of Korea (BK) held its benchmark interest rate steady on Thursday, citing stronger-than-expected growth momentum, in an effort to safeguard financial stability amid a weak local currency and a volatile housing market. According to Yemen News Agency, in a widely anticipated move, the Bank of Korea's Monetary Policy Committee kept the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 2.5% at its latest rate-setting meeting in Seoul. This marked the sixth consecutive time the central bank has maintained the rate at its current level, even though it remains in an easing monetary policy cycle. Since October 2024, the BK has cut its benchmark interest rate by 100 basis points from 3.5% in an effort to boost economic growth, and has kept it at that level since May 2025.
