Sana'a: Local investment funds and institutions increased their purchases on the Muscat Stock Exchange last week, even as share prices declined. This occurred as many investors sold shares to generate additional liquidity for the initial public offering (IPO) of the Oman India Fertilizer Company. According to Yemen News Agency, on Saturday, the value of purchases by local investment funds and institutions last week reached 132.1 million Omani rials, compared to 114 million Omani rials the previous week. Trading value also increased last week by 16.7 percent, rising to 162.6 million Omani rials from 139.3 million Omani rials the week before. The number of executed transactions rose by 21.5 percent, from 31,000 to over 38,000. Last week saw a decline in the prices of 54 securities, compared to 24 securities whose prices rose and 16 securities that remained stable at their previous levels.
