Mahara: The Women’s Department of the Peaceful Sit-in Committee in Mahara Governorate organized an awareness seminar to enhance the religious and cultural identity of the Mahari community.
According to Yemen News Agency, the seminar, which saw wide participation from women’s sectors, aimed to educate Mahari women about the challenges faced after the region was targeted by foreign occupation and its support for extremist Takfiri groups. These groups are seen as threats to the social fabric and stability of the governorate.
During the event, Nadia Mukhbal, head of the Women’s Department in the Peaceful Sit-in Committee, highlighted the significant challenges confronting the governorate’s people. She emphasized the need to raise awareness about the dangers of extremist ideologies and their destructive impact on stability and social peace. Mukhbal stressed the importance of promoting a culture of moderation and tolerance, rejecting extremist views, and reinforcing societal values to maintain cohesion.
Mukhbal urged the residents of Mahara to unite against any conspiracies and plans that aim to disrupt the social fabric and incite conflicts. She pointed out the worsening economic conditions in Yemen and how some external forces, under the guise of supporting Yemen, are establishing new military formations loyal to foreign interests, thus revealing ulterior motives for control and influence.
She also acknowledged the crucial role of Mahari women in combating extremism by nurturing generations and safeguarding society from deviant ideologies. Noura Rafeet, Vice President of the Women’s Department, emphasized enhancing women’s roles in combating negative phenomena such as drug abuse and other foreign customs, guiding families, and protecting children from these influences.
The symposium featured extensive discussions, with participants unanimously rejecting extremist religious narratives and the formation of armed militias, recognizing the threats they pose to the cohesive social fabric of the governorate.
