Sana'a: A meeting held in Ibb Governorate, chaired by First Deputy Governor Abdul Hamid Al-Shahari, discussed today the rehabilitation project of the historic and strategic Dhi Laman Dam located in the Al-Jurfein area of Yarim District, with community participation.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included Directors of Agriculture Eng. Hamoud Al-Rasas, Water Resources Director Mohammed Al-Warafi, Geological Survey Director Adnan Al-Qadhi, Environmental Protection Director Dr. Naji Al-Nahmi, Community Initiatives Coordinator Bandar Al-Ahdal, and Deputy Director of the Agricultural Financing Unit Fadhl Al-Sabbahi. They reviewed the study for the project's first phase, which involves excavation and removal of accumulated sediments to restore the dam's storage capacity to over one billion cubic liters.
The meeting assigned Deputy Agricultural Sector Official in the governorate, Eng. Mohammed Al-Zinnan, to prepare an implementation plan for the first phase. This plan will outline the responsibilities of the concerned agencies, the expected community contributions, and coordination with the General Administration of Initiatives and the Emergency Development and Rural Interventions Unit at the Ministry of Local Administration and Rural Development.
Al-Shahari stated that the rehabilitation of Dhi Laman Dam comes as part of the directives of the Revolution's Leader and the President of the Supreme Political Council to prioritize the agricultural sector and move toward achieving self-sufficiency. He highlighted the project's importance in replenishing groundwater and springs in Yarim and neighboring districts, as well as providing irrigation water for vast agricultural lands in the region.
Al-Shahari stressed the need to preserve the dam's historical features during excavation and sediment removal and to transfer the excavated soil to solid lands suitable for reclamation. He added that this strategic project will contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in the governorate and stimulate tourism in Yarim and surrounding areas, given their rich historical sites and scenic landscapes.
The deputy governor commended the active participation of the local community and their willingness to support the local authority's efforts, urging all relevant agencies to coordinate closely in implementing the project, which he described as one of the governorate's top development priorities.
