Meeting in Sana’a Discusses Procedures for Establishing Central Laboratory for Honey Testing

Sana'a: A meeting chaired by the Acting Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment, Sam Al-Bashiri, discussed the executive procedures for establishing a central specialized laboratory for testing honey within the Yemeni Authority for Standards, Metrology and Quality Control, within the framework of governmental directions to advance the bee and honey production sector.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Industry and Economic Cities Sector, Engineer Sami Maqbuli, and the Executive Director-General of the Standards and Metrology Authority, Abdullah Al-Atefi, reviewed the technical specifications for the testing equipment required for the laboratory and the difficulties facing the marketing of Yemeni honey due to the absence of testing.

During the meeting, the Acting Minister stressed the importance of starting the executive procedures to establish the laboratory according to the scheduled steps. He emphasized the importance of establishing the laboratory in light of the expansion of economic empowerment projects in the field of beekeeping and honey production, as well as combating fraud and preserving the reputation of Yemeni honey as a national economic wealth. This will be achieved by granting certificates of quality to committed honey producers, which will raise consumer confidence in local and foreign markets in the quality of the famous Yemeni honey product, which is known for its distinctive characteristics and high quality.

In this context, the Acting Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment, accompanied by the Executive Director-General of the Authority, visited the Central Veterinary Laboratories. They listened from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for the Livestock Sector, Dr. Abdul Raouf Al-Shawkani, to an explanation about the laboratories' equipment and the services they provide.

The Acting Minister of Economy emphasized the importance of finding common channels for cooperation between the Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority and the Central Veterinary Laboratories affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture. This cooperation aims to achieve integration and development of the services provided and improve the quality of economic activities in the fields of livestock and agriculture.
