Meeting in Sana’a Explores Strategies to Enhance Water Resources Authority’s Performance

Sana'a: A meeting in the capital Sana'a, chaired by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Dr. Radwan al-Rubai, focused on strategies for improving and developing the performance of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities.

According to Yemen News Agency, Minister al-Rubai highlighted the urgency of forming a specialized working group to review and prepare the necessary foundations, standards, and controls for the development and management of water resources. These efforts aim to enhance performance efficiency and achieve sustainable development goals. He also stressed the importance of completing the Authority's automation project as part of the Ministry's digital transformation initiative, which includes activating network connectivity and employing modern electronic systems in administrative and technical procedures.

Minister al-Rubai called for the Authority's engagement in supporting community initiatives focused on building water barriers to harvest rainwater. He emphasized developing digital solutions to enhance groundwater recharge and reduce its depletion, aligning with the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership. Additionally, he underscored the need to activate the Water Resources Unit for agricultural associations as an alternative to the irrigation unit by appointing a coordinator in each directorate to ensure improved performance.

Engineer Hadi Quraiah, Chairman of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities, provided an overview of the Authority's efforts to establish scientific foundations for water resources development and update its public policies. He mentioned that the Authority is working on a memorandum of understanding with the Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Authority and the Oil Exploration and Production Authority. This collaboration aims to ensure integrated efforts, data exchange, and consultations to protect groundwater reserves from pollution during exploration operations, and to cooperate in the development and recharge of water basins.

Engineer Quraiah also emphasized the significance of raising community awareness about the rational use of water to ensure the sustainability of this vital resource for future generations.
