Sana'a: Minister of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Qaheem inspected the progress of maintenance, rehabilitation, and restoration works, including retaining walls and water drainage channels along the Sana'a-Hodeidah road. The minister reviewed the completed works being carried out by seven teams from the Public Corporation for Roads and Bridges, funded by the Road Maintenance Fund.
According to Yemen News Agency, engineers and technical teams briefed the minister on the ongoing activities, which include the maintenance and restoration of stone retaining walls, rainwater drainage systems, concrete barriers, as well as essential asphalt repairs to ensure the road's readiness and the safety of users. The Minister of Transport and Public Works stated that the visit comes in implementation of directives from the Acting Prime Minister to follow up on the continuous maintenance of main roads linking the capital with the provinces, particularly the Sana'a-Hodeidah road.
He emphasized the importance of these works in preserving this vital road, which connects the capital Sana'a with Hodeidah province and its ports, and serves as the main supply route for the capital and surrounding provinces. Qaheem praised the efforts of the Public Corporation for Roads and the Road Maintenance Fund in maintaining the road and bridge network, ensuring the continuity of traffic movement, passenger transport, and goods transportation.
According to engineers from the Public Corporation for Roads, the works are part of a maintenance project extending from Sana'a to Manakha, covering a distance of 90 km with a width of seven meters and dirt shoulders ranging from one to one and a half meters. They explained that the ongoing works include backfilling dirt shoulders to protect asphalt edges, repairing asphalt cracks and potholes, opening water drains and culverts, restoring structural works, and constructing retaining walls to protect road edges in certain locations.
They added that concrete works are also being implemented in steep slope areas to prevent further erosion of shoulder materials, along with traffic safety measures such as safety barriers at dangerous curves and repaired bridge railings, in addition to constructing and expanding water drainage channels. They noted that around 50 machines and pieces of equipment are participating in the implementation of these works.
