Taiz:The Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water has strongly condemned a recent airstrike by Saudi forces targeting a drinking water tank in the Quds subdistrict of the Al-Mawasit district, located in the Taiz governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry denounced the attack as part of a continued pattern of targeting essential infrastructure, including water stations, wells, and tanks across various governorates. The assault on the water project in Al-Hazm city notably destroyed its solar power system and desalination plant, severely disrupting services and forcing the facilities out of operation.
The ministry's statement highlighted that the attack on the drinking water tank, which serves the Al-Aridah and Azzan villages, was intended to worsen civilian suffering by creating a water crisis. It described the attack as a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which protect resources essential to civilian survival.
Furthermore, the ministry asserted that targeting civilian service facilities constitutes a war crime and a violation of international humanitarian law. It held Saudi forces responsible for the ongoing systematic targeting of water and electricity infrastructure over the last 12 years, emphasizing the importance of these facilities in the daily lives of millions.
The ministry called upon the United Nations and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities by condemning these actions and applying pressure to cease repeated attacks on civilian service projects.
