Sana'a: The National Human Rights Authority strongly condemned on Saturday the dangerous military escalation carried out by Saudi warplanes over the past 48 hours, targeting six Yemeni provinces: The National Human Rights Authority strongly condemned the recent escalation of military activity by Saudi warplanes, which have launched a series of airstrikes over the last two days across six Yemeni provinces.
According to Yemen News Agency, the authority reported that Saudi warplanes conducted 129 airstrikes targeting the provinces of Taiz, Marib, Hodeidah, Jawf, Sa'ada, Amran, and Hajjah. These attacks were executed using F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets launched from Saudi military bases in Khamis Mushait.
The statement from the National Human Rights Authority emphasized that these attacks systematically targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, marking the escalation as a potential war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute. The authority also highlighted that such actions violate international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction and proportionality.
The authority has called on the UN Security Council to convene immediately to address this situation and urged it to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by stopping the attacks and holding those responsible accountable. Furthermore, the authority appealed to the international community to halt arms supplies to Saudi Arabia and encouraged the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the attacks.
The National Human Rights Authority stated its commitment to continue documenting these alleged violations and submitting them to international and legal bodies to ensure accountability for the actions taken.
