Sana'a: A press conference was held in Al-Jawf Governorate on Friday regarding the Saudi attack on Al-Hazm Central Prison on August 7, attended by Al-Jawf Governor Faisal bin Haider and National Human Rights Authority Chairman Ali Taysir.
According to Yemen News Agency, Bin Haider stated that the conference aimed to highlight the Saudi attack on the civilian prison facility, which resulted in 39 inmates being killed and injured. He described the attack as an attempt to fabricate a false victory and emphasized that those responsible would eventually face justice.
He urged journalists and human rights advocates to document and report the incident globally, asserting that the victims' blood would remain a testimony to the Yemeni people's resilience.
Taysir remarked that the attack on the civilian judicial facility constituted a war crime, as inmates were serving sentences and receiving visits from their families. He stated that the attack represented crimes against humanity, collective punishment, and mass killing, all punishable under international humanitarian and criminal law. He called upon the United Nations, Human Rights Council, and Security Council to condemn such crimes and refer those responsible to the International Criminal Court.
Taysir noted that the attack resulted in 39 inmate deaths and seven injuries, including women and children visiting relatives at the prison. He emphasized that the victims' names had been documented by the authority and Public Prosecution, and such crimes do not expire over time.
Meanwhile, Al-Jawf Civil Defense Director Lt. Col. Hassan Saboula reported that rescue teams had completed search and recovery operations at the site, recovering 39 bodies and seven injured individuals, including a woman and a girl. He added that forensic and public health teams were working to identify 28 bodies.
Saboula commended the joint efforts of civil defense, forensic teams, security authorities, the Red Crescent, Al-Hazm Hospital, and the Public Works Department, and expressed gratitude to journalists for documenting the incident.
