Sana'a: The National Committee for Prisoners Affairs has condemned the Islah Party mercenaries in Taiz province for executing prisoner Issa Muqbil Ali Aoun Al-Afeeri. The execution followed a fabricated charge and an illegitimate trial, according to the committee.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee's statement described the execution as a horrific crime that violates international norms and laws. It highlighted the blatant disregard for agreements made through the United Nations and local mediators, noting that Al-Afeeri was included in the lists of prisoners submitted to the UN since the Stockholm Agreement in 2018.
The committee expressed condolences to Al-Afeeri's family and loved ones, emphasizing that the crime aims to complicate the prisoners' file and obstruct international and local efforts to resolve it. It affirmed that the crime will not go unnoticed or be subject to a statute of limitations, holding the Islah Party leadership and the Saudi regime responsible for the crime and its repercussions.
The committee called on the UN envoy to take responsibility for addressing this crime, as he is aware of the unlawful trials conducted against prisoners and detainees. It also urged tribal and social figures in Yemen to condemn this and other crimes against prisoners.
The National Committee for Prisoners Affairs appealed to international and local organizations working in Yemen to condemn the execution and pursue justice for its perpetrators.
