Sanaa: The Public Prosecutor, Judge Abdul Salam Al-Houthi, today ordered the release of a number of prisoners eligible for pardon at the Central Correctional Facility in the Capital Sanaa, on the occasion of the upcoming Prophet's birthday anniversary for the year 1448 AH.
According to Yemen News Agency, this decision was made during Judge Al-Houthi's visit to the correctional facility, where he was accompanied by the Heads of the Specialized Criminal Prosecution, Judge Abdullah Zahrah, and the Northern Capital Prosecution, Judge Ahmed Abu Monsar. The delegation also included Deputy Prosecutors for various districts and the Director General of Prisons and Prisoners Affairs at the Presidency, Jihad Ghathayah, as well as the Director General of the Central Correctional Facility, Brigadier Ali Abu Kahlah.
During the visit, officials matched the data of the prosecutions and the correctional facility's records concerning the prisoners, examining details such as the sentences issued against them, the remaining periods after serving most of their terms, their conduct, and their pledges not to repeat offenses.
The delegates listened to the testimonies of detainees in both the women's and men's sections of the facility, regarding the nature of their crimes, their remorse and repentance, and their commitments to adhere to the law henceforth.
Judge Al-Houthi emphasized that the release of prisoners eligible for pardon aligns with directives from the Revolution Leader, Sayyed Abdul Malik Badr al-Din Al-Houthi, and the President of the Supreme Political Council. This action embodies the values of tolerance and mercy associated with the Prophet's birthday anniversary.
He clarified that pardoning eligible prisoners is not an act of leniency towards crime, but rather a legal and humanitarian initiative aimed at rehabilitating those released and facilitating their positive reintegration into society. The release follows a comprehensive review of prisoners' files, confirming good conduct and behavior, and is seen as an opportunity to reform and allow prisoners to contribute constructively to society.
Judge Al-Houthi reiterated that this pardon-based release is a reformative measure that balances justice and mercy, offering prisoners a renewed chance to follow the right path.
