Mahweet: Mahweet governor Haneen Qatina, accompanied by Province undersecretary of Local and Rural Administration Nasser al-Mahdar, inspected the historic al-Tawilah Fortress to assess the damage caused by recent rains and floods, and to review the restoration and preservation requirements.
According to Yemen News Agency, they were joined by Director of the District, Rashid Marwan, and examined the areas affected by floods, which caused cracks and partial collapses, posing a threat to the structural integrity of this historic landmark.
Officials from the district and relevant authorities briefed the visitors on the current condition of the fortress, emphasizing its urgent need for maintenance to prevent further deterioration and to preserve its remaining architectural and archaeological components.
Governor Qatina stressed that the fortress is one of the most important historical landmarks in the governorate, highlighting the need for immediate action to evaluate the damage and develop a restoration plan in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and relevant authorities.
He noted that the Ministry of Local and Rural Administration is closely monitoring the condition of the fortress, recognizing the risks posed by recurring floods, and emphasized that preserving this heritage is a collective responsibility requiring coordination among all official and community stakeholders.
