Sa'ada: The Technical Committee of the Water Basin in Sa'ad Governorate convened today to address several requests concerning the drilling of new water wells, as well as the deepening and maintenance of existing ones. This meeting was attended by Deputy Governors Saleh Aqab and Mohammed Ku'aiba, alongside members of relevant authorities.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee examined the submitted requests, evaluating associated documents and technical and legal data. The focus was on regulating water resource use, safeguarding the groundwater basin from depletion, and balancing community needs with water reserve protection.
The committee approved several requests that met the established technical and legal conditions, while others were rejected for not complying with the necessary criteria. The committee also proposed solutions for certain requests that required adjustments.
During the meeting, the Deputy Governors emphasized the need to adhere to technical and legal controls when evaluating requests for drilling and deepening wells. This is crucial to protect the water basin, prevent excessive groundwater depletion, and regulate drilling activities in line with the Water Law and its regulations.
They commended the leadership and staff of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities in the governorate for their efforts in monitoring drilling operations, implementing water preservation measures, and ensuring that applicants for artesian wells install modern irrigation systems. These efforts are coordinated with relevant authorities.
Aqab and Ku'aiba also called on community members to practice water conservation, avoiding waste, and adopting various conservation methods as part of a faith-based cultural practice.
